Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the insertion of fine stainless steel needles into the body. Acupuncture treats the whole person on physical, emotional, and mental levels. Acupuncture therapy attempts to regulate what the Chinese call Qi, in simple terms to bring harmony to the body. Acupuncture effectively regulates the functions of the body and strengthens it’s resistance to disease. A patient recently likened an acupuncture treatment to doing an hour of yoga. Acupuncture has been known to effectively Treat: Pain, Addiction, Stress, Digestive Issues, Women’s Health Issues, Respiratory Diseases, and Mental-Emotional Imbalances.
Moxabustion
(Moxa) is a traditional Chinese Medical technique that uses the herb Mugwort to warm the body. Moxabustion therapy has been developed over the last 3,000 years. Mugwort has a unique ability to warm and strengthen the body, it is extremely good for cold, tired patients. We use rolled Moxa (looks like a cigar) over acupuncture points, on top of needles and hand rolled on top of burn cream on the body. We have used this extensively and it is a very safe procedure that also feels great!
Cupping
The use of glass or plastic cups to create a vacuum on the skin. This draws the skin into the cup and causes a local congestion in the tissues. This helps tight muscles relax, the body release toxins and the lungs open up. Here at East-West we use Cupping for pain, asthma and overall health. Cupping is a little like a deep tissue massage and is a very safe procedure.
Gua Sha
An ancient Chinese Technique, that uses a spoon or other curved instrument to scrape the skin. It can be used for pain, fever, breathing problems (asthma, cough) and many other problems. Gua Sha increases circulation where it is done. The appearance of small bumps is common after a treatment and usually fade within 2-3 days. Your practitioner will decide if Gua Sha is right for you.
